Eeek.  I have to apologize.  Life has been so busy lately and I’ve gotten a ton of emails from you all asking questions or asking where I’ve been!  So Sorry!  I’m getting back on my blogging track and have some changes planned for my post-wedding blog future!!

First, I have to tell you – Honestly, I have NO IDEA where time has gone. There seems like there’s a million things I want to do and I don’t have time for anything but work!  Work as in my day job and work as in fixing-up and maintaining my humble abode.  So, I’ve stayed away from this blog diggity and my social media obession (Facebook) for the last few weeks.  It’s been a nice break, but now I’m ready to get to it!

What I’m going to do is finish up my Detroit vendor reviews and some other personal posts about my wedding.  Then, comes Change.

The next phase of this here blog will focus on Metro Detroit wedding venues, vendors and other little helpful nuggets of info I can dig up for you Metro Married To Be’s!  I love the hunt for for a good deal, talented vendors and cool places to have a Metro Detroit Wedding.  (Me wants to beef up the Detroit Venue Guide and expand to Metro Detroit)

AND – I’d like to highlight real Metro Detroit brides.  So, send me your pics!  I’ll have submission guidelines and all that jazz to ensure good quality images.

Also – if you have any information you’d like to share, please submit it  to mydetroitwedding at

I’m such the procrastinator… I’m still working on the seating chart and programs…

Hook, line and sinker.   Just toss me in the tank and watch me repeatedly hit the wall.  Oh well, right?  It’s kind of amusing, I’m sure.  And, so it goes for now.

The wedding day will be amazing.  Friends and family will celebrate.  We will laugh, eat, dance and rejoice.  The party will continue well into the night.  We’ve got a a venue that never sleeps.

No doubt, it’ll be amazing.

Everything in my life is pretty incredible.  My husband, our new house, my family, his family, our dog, our health and happiness.  Admittedly so, we have it good.

fish on a line

Sorry I haven’t posted lately.  But, I’ve been following the old adage that if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.

I’ve been out of town the last couple days for worky-work, but I’m back in the saddle. And, I received a ton of emails and promise to respond soon!

Tomorrow is my bridal shower! And, tonight my best friend is coming to town. I can’t wait to have a glass of wine with her and feel sane! (You all know what I’m talking about.)

I’ll try to steal some time to blog soon. I have several updates of substance (no self pity or zilla monster updates).

Chat soon!

Well, I’ve been working on invitations for the last couple weeks.  And, I planned to adhere the masterpeice (the main invitation my friend Michelle brought to life) on a piece of gorgeous black linen cardstock.

So… in preparation to bust-a-move on  these invites… I pre-cut the black linen cardstock during my lunch break last week Tuesday. Well tonight, while I was at Kinkos talking to them about the print job, I realized that I had cut the background piece about a 1/4 inch short.  So.  Basically.  The invitation and the background are exactly the same length.  If I could have reared my own ugly head and cut its throat, I would have!

What a waste of time cutting those things.  A waste of money on paper.  If I had voiced the obsenities going through my head I woulda been thrown in jail.

On the drive home all I could think of was:

GRRR… Snarl… SNAP.

And, that wasn’t the half of it.   I’ll tell you about my print debacle tomorrow.  Too bitter about the paper to divulge tonight.

Grrr.  Snarl.  Snap.

I’m tired.  I’m bitter.  It’s ugly.

I just wanted to thank my guy for all the things he’s done around the house.   I’m so lucky.   Not only is he truly a wonderful guy, but he’s really quite handy.

So.  I have lots of updates… but, I’ve been so incredibly busy with moving and wedding stuff that I haven’t had a chance to post.  But, tomorrow it is.

And, I even have some real Detroit wedding pics for you.

So, tomorrow it is!

In the last couple days, I emailed or called a couple vendors about what-have-you.  And, they say they’ll get back to you within 24 hours, but theydon’t.  Just wondering why they post or say the turnaround response time when it’s not so?

Not to be snarky or anything, but don’t mess with  Say what you mean.  Decisions need to be made and I will move on if I don’t hear from you!

You know what I mean?

Grrr.  What’s with my face these days?  For 30-some years I’ve gone with minimal zits and this year my pores decide to explode.

I actually woke-up in the middle of the night wondering why my face hurt!  Yeah, it’s one of those…

Get on with it Zits, cause you better not rear your ugly heads come September.

I hope you’re getting money back and you don’t have to pay Uncle Sam!

Some of you know that our dog Diesel is an eating machine.  To date, he’s chewed-up my cell phone, my camera, 6 pairs of my shoes, 2 pairs of Bug’s shoes, 3 of Bug’s hats, an ungodly amount of underwear, a couple of my tank tops, several socks (which are his personal fav’s) and the leather couch.  Thankfully, he’s still alive.

Well, when I got home today he chewed-up the Save this Date stamp that I was going to take back to Michaels.  (I failed miserably at embossing.)  AND he got into the save-the-date envelopes.  One was chewed and the rest were scattered on the floor.   They were on the desk, too, out of doggy site.  Perhaps he’s bitter that he’s not invited to the wedding?

Can you imagine?

This is the Monster in question.

Remember when we were kids and time seemed to drag by?  Not anymore… Now it flies by!  Crazy how that works.

Today.  My sinus headache I’ve had since yesterday morning turned into a migraine at work.  I looked like a one-eyed pirate because I felt like my eyeball was going to explode out of its socket and splatter on my computer screen.  Today.  I had a little chat with my STD vendor. (Ummm,  ahh hem, my save the date vendor.)  There’s a huge space between the second 09 in the date.  It’ll cost me $70 to have them reprinted.  Grr to them and grr to me for not carefully reviewing the 800th proof.  But, come on, spacing should be the vendors issue, right?  Right now. My head still hurts and I’d like to ram it into the wall.

But, despite my turd-ish day.  I’m happy.  Spring starts tomorrow.

In six months, Bug and I will say ‘I Do.”

While perusing the web for some ideas to spruce-up the envelopes for our save-the-dates,  (stds aren’t done yet, but when I’ve got the final proof, I’ll give you a peek.)   I came across this on Wedding Bee.   Love it.  LOVE it.  Mrs. Eggplant even gives you a step-by-step process!

Mrs. Eggplant’s Card Crafting: Just a Few Snippetsw87249802

Looks easy, right?

So, I stopped by Michaels and checked-out their rubber stamps and embossing supplies.  I picked up black and plum embossing powder, an embossing heat gun, embossing ink and pad, some spot paint and brushes and three rubber stamps.   Cost = more than I wanted to spend ($50 with a 40 percent coupon).  But, I had nothing to start with.

We’ll see if I like the embossing method or the printed border method…

I was that girl on Saturday night.  I was the eratic dance move girl.  And, I did the running man.  Probably did some jumping jacks too.  Let’s just say, I hurt on Sunday.  And it wasn’t from my ultra cool dance moves.

With that said, I don’t think I partied like that since I was 21.  And, I think it’s safe to say, it’ll be another 10 years before I do it again.

Thought I’d share my little weekend glory story.  (Actually, there’s no glory…)

A lot of you are waiting for an update on my Geektown Casino and Hotel visit.  I promise, I’ll get it up sometime this weekend.  After a much-needed two week holiday break, I headed back to work on Jan. 5, which also happened to be my b-day.  And last weekend, I caught that awful cold that’s going around!  So, much to my dismay, I’ve been working and sleeping instead of blogging this week!

But, I do have a lot of updates about Greektown.  And, I plan to go back this Wednesday to see the completed ballroom.  I’ve got updates on florists and linens for knock out prices.  (My mom’s jaw dropped – literally – out of sheer shock at how inexpensive these quotes are – a sure STEAL!) I promise more to come about Greektown tonight or tomorrow and the other stuff next week!  Now I’m off to a snowy Detroit for my engagement pic session with Heather Saunders!

Good-bye 2008.  Hello 2009!  Overall, 2008 was a great year.  My engagement trumped the fact I turned 30 and that I started a new (and great) job (with great people)!  I became closer to two amazing women who are now my closest friends.  And, my old best friend (who’s also my Maid of Honor) and are I closer than we’ve been in years!  Friendship is paramount!

But I have to tell you, 2008 was a very lazy year for me.  I think I spent more time in front of the computer and tv screen than ever before, which I’m pretty sure has a direct correlation to the fact that I’ve gained weight and flab!  This year, I’ve decided to get away from the screens and get back to reading, running, biking, kayaking and anything else that gets me outdoors or away from the mindless tubes!   I’m also going to work on being more patient – which is not my strong suit!

But, what I’d most like to most focus on is NOT my wedding, but my fiance and my friends and family.  I don’t want to lose sight of the little things in life… the simple things.  Like calling my brother in Napa or meeting a friend for coffee instead of a phone call.  Often times I find myself in a frenzy because I feel as if someone pressed my fast forward button – but, I’m recalibrating!  It’s time to take things one step at a time.  I think I’ll find myself much happier!

2009 should be an exciting year!  I’m marrying an incredible man!  I hope all of you have a great year!

It’s the day after Thanksgiving and FI and I have been lounging around my parents house for almost two days now!  (Funny thing is, we only live 20 minutes away!)

Anyway, my mom has a motto plastered on her fridge that I’m now determined to live by.  Looking back, it’s something she’s alway’s lived by!  I’m not sure who wrote it, I actually think it’s unknown.   Here it is:

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in a well-preserved body, but to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in another, body thoroughly used up, totally worn-out and screaming ‘DAMN, what a ride!'”

I’m definitely living up to the motto this weekend…  I don’t feel guilty about pouring myself another glass of wine or eating yet another piece of pie!

I have to preface this post by saying I was not at all interested in having a wedding videographer.  If you look at the pricing out there, it’s easy to suffer from sticker shock.  And, if you look at the finished work of those vendors who guarantee a fantastic deal, you see just how lame videographer’s can be.  (Ok, this is not an absolute truth here! There are some gifted and up-and-coming videographers who charge reasonably.  They were just booked.)  To forego this seemingly unneccessary cost, we thought we’d recruit Kenny’s best friend’s wife to video the ceremony and the best man/maid of honor speeches.

Basically, Kenny and I were professional videographer nay-sayers.  But my mom, on the otherhand, was not.  Every day, she’d weave-in her key messages of the importance of having a videographer capture the big day.  No matter what the conversation!  Talk about the art of persuasion or maybe the saturation of messaging, but she broke me… she beat me down with her videography campaign.  (Not to mention, my parents are giving us a generous chunk of change and they have some say in where it goes.)

Two Penny Productions

Anyway, I begrudgingly jumped on the bandwagon and started looking at videographers.  I started with the extremely reasonably priced vendors, but I wasn’t at all impressed with their sample videos.  Not that I wanted a full production with a cinematography director and all that, but I didn’t want it to be the epitomy of lame either.  This is when I come to the realization:  All prices are negotiable – especially for those vendors who run their own businesses.

So, I made tons of phone calls.  It was time to wheel and deal and get the vendor I (ok – my mom-) wanted at the price we could afford.

Top three picks and why:
Castle Video Productions – This by far is the best deal out there! This finished product is amazing and you can’t beat the price.  This is a woman-run show and she really has this videography thing nailed down.  It’s no where near lame.  It’s elegant, eloquent and you feel like you’re there.  You get a superior quality product for a reasonable price.    However, she books 18-24 months in advance.  I almost spiraled into a depression when I found out she was booked.  She did recommend Tri-foot Productions and Two Penny Productions.

Two Penny Productions – All I will say is you HAVE  to visit their site and check out their videos.  The second I navigated onto the site, I didn’t care about any other call backs.  (And by this time, I left several messages with several vendors.)  Until I saw their work, I always connotated a videographer with the word lame.  This started back in highschool.  But I must say, these people are really good at what they do.  And, you work with them with crafting a theme.  I was sold right away, but their price was more than what we wanted to pay.  But, after talking with them, we negotiated an awesome deal.  (It’s a really, really good price!)  So, we booked them! Oh, and this was the one vendor my mom wanted.  Everyone is happy, especially the mom!

Tri-Foot Productions – Another great deal in the making.  Check them out.  Their getting a lot of buzz on the Detroit message board.  If I wasn’t able to negotiate with Two Penny, I would’ve booked Tri-Foot.  Now this is an up-and-coming videographer.  Their reasonably priced and you get a great video.

I called several other vendors and I’ll post their info on my vendor details page soon.

All of the above vendors send two people to video the wedding.  Oh, and when you’re shopping around for videographers, make sure they include several copies of the dvd and the raw video footage in the package price.  Some vendors charge more for that.

It’s interesting what people will say and do when you and the significant other announce you’re getting married.  I won’t go into all the nitty gritty details, but I have to tell you, it’s tiring.  How can you possibly begin to please everyone?  It’s an emotional brain drain.  Up until earlier this month, I was really enjoying planning the wedding.  I love researching potential locations and getting the best deal possible.  Kenny and I really want our wedding to be a party.  Nothing too formal, nothing too religious, but something that everyone at any age would enjoy.  But then something happened that really took the wind out of my sails.  To be honest, I wanted to cancel everything and just head off to some beach with the beau and have a small, quiet ceremony.  (Now, I understand why some people actually do that.)  But, we’re not doing that.  Mostly because Kenny won’t let me.  And, I suppose I’d regret that choice in the future…

The point of this blog post is that a person only has so many “happy” life-changing events in their lifetime.   I’ll state the obvious here: A wedding is one of those events.  And for me, I don’t want to look back and have regrets or wish I’d done something differently.   There is a bigger picture here…  Friends and family are what’s important.  One thing I know about me is that I have an awfully dry sense of humor.  Sometimes so dry, it chokes.  Yeah, I have to work on that.  But, what I also know about myself is that I can’t harbor anger or bitterness for any length of time.  If someone hurts my feelings intentionally or unintentionally I can’t dwell on it.  I can’t be angry about it for too long because it’ll take me down.  This wedding planning is a good lesson in “getting the poison out.”  That’s what the Japanese call it when they purge the negative feelings they have inside.  It’s a perfect phrase, because anger is like a poison that’ll eat away at you… And if you allow it, it’ll turn into something ugly.  Life’s just too short for all that nonsense.

So, from this point forward, I’m looking to get the wind back in the sails.  Let’s see what kind of deals are to be had out there!

I just got engaged… and I never in a million years thought I’d have a wedding blog.   But here I am… planning away and perusing other wedding blogs.  I’m going to need some help, so I’d LOVE to hear your feedback – GOOD, BAD or UGLY!
